Great Smoky Mountains Waterfalls

Researchers have proposed that waterfalls generate negative ions that make people feel good. Negative ions are negatively charged air molecules created by a number of natural and electronic processes.  Negative ion levels at large waterfalls are estimated to be 50 times higher than at other rural sites.  Brighter moods, increased energy, improved physical performance, and better health are just some of the benefits touted for exposure to high concentrations of negative ions.  Visit one or several area waterfalls and find out for yourself!

Leisure is a form of silence, not noiselessness. It is the silence of contemplation such as occurs when we let our minds rest on a rosebud, a child at play, a Divine mystery, or a waterfall.

Place of a Thousand Drips

From Gatlinburg, turn at light #8 and follow to Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail, stop #15.  Especially dramatic during wet periods.

A strong man and a waterfall always channel their own path.
